Cult group leader kills member in Delta community

A leader of a notorious cult group in Okpanam community, near Asaba Delta State identified as Frank Okie has allegedly killed a member of his group in error.

It was gathered that the suspect hails from Umuomahe clan while the deceased (name withheld) was from Umuobodo, Okpanam community.

But the Police Image Maker in the State, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, who confirmed the incident, disclosed that both parents of the suspect, and the deceased were cultists who had been involved in notorious cult related activities in the recent times, adding the victim was beaten mercilessly to death.

Sources said the victim was beaten after he had challenged the group leader, and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre Asaba, where he gave up the ghost few hours later.

According to a family source, the police allegedly collected N50, 000 to destroy the case, but DSP Aniamaka dispelled as untrue, adding the suspect was arrested, and upon interrogation, confessed to the crime, saying that his biological father was a well-known member of a cult group before he died.

It would be recalled that the only brother of the deceased cultist and a notorious criminal died in Ogwashi-Uku Prison some time ago, where he was awaiting trial for a case of stealing.

In another development, some policemen attached to the Principal Secretary to the Delta State Governor, Hillary Ibegbulem were last Sunday allegedly beat up some women with their children at the back for coming to ask for financial assistance.

It was gathered that the affected women were rushed to nearby hospital for medical treatment based on the injury sustained from the alleged beatings.

The Policemen were still to have acted the script of the master who had earlier reportedly warned them against visitors coming to his house to seek financial assistance.

But in a swift reaction, Mr. Ibegbulem denied the allegation as untrue, adding that they were spies.
