According to the Rev Father in St Aquinas Catholic Church (STACC), in today's mass he talked about the ongoing riot in school and also mentioned the situation of the school's Vice Chancellor. "I urge you all especially the students to stay away from the school premises till further notice so as to avoid trouble. I also spoke with the VC and he claimed he wasn't in school on Friday". Many students shouted after he talked about the VC while Some students have claimed to continue the riot from tomorrow onwards. While the Rev. Father was still speaking, an unknown student in the church shouted from afar " Today is a peaceful day but tomorrow is another day".

The proposed peaceful protest which later turned into a violent riot at the Federal University Of Technology Owerri has left no fewer than 33 students in detention. The protest which started peacefully at the early hours of Friday 17th Feb 2017 with prayers and praises but later turned violent when the students claimed they were being intimidated by the security personnels who forcefully arrested one of the peaceful protesters Comr. Ogbonna Rochas. The arrest of Ogbonna was the first noted arrest during the protest but along the line, more students were arrested and even the day after the protest, according to reports. Story has it that the security men are still on the look-out for more students. The security agencies involved in the arrests includes the police and the DSS.
